PhantomBuster’s GitHub Stargazers Export Automation extracts public stargazer data from GitHub repositories you manage. This quick tutorial shows how to connect your account, add repository sources, configure the Phantom, and download your results.
GitHub restrictions: As of June 30, 2026, stargazer data is only accessible for repositories where you are an owner, admin, or collaborator (unauthorized repositories will return a 404). Additionally, GitHub only allows access to the most recent 4,800 stargazers and displays the top 100 per repository.
Output scope: This Phantom returns public stargazer information (such as profile URLs, names, and images) but does not provide contact details.
Performance & safety: Expect about 10 seconds per 10 stargazers extracted (uses 1 execution slot). Spread extractions across multiple daytime launches to reduce the risk of rate limits.
Free plan & trial limits: CSV input uploads are not supported. CSV exports are limited to the first 10 rows, and CSV download links or JSON exports are unavailable.
Connect your GitHub account: Install the PhantomBuster browser extension and connect your GitHub session in one click. If not using Chrome or Firefox, manually copy your GitHub session cookie and paste it into the dedicated field.
Provide repository URLs: Enter a single GitHub repository URL, provide a Google Sheet URL, or upload a publicly accessible CSV. If using a spreadsheet and a different column than A, specify the exact column header in the repository URL column field.
Google Sheets must be shared with "Anyone with the link," and CSV inputs must be publicly accessible.
3. Configure extraction settings: Set how many repositories to process per launch and the number of stargazers to scrape per repository. Decide whether to remove duplicate profiles across repositories.
Leaving the stargazer count blank will collect as many as possible up to GitHub’s limit. The option to remove duplicated profiles is enabled by default.
4. Set result file options: Optionally rename the results file or list "Fields to keep" as comma-separated values to generate a second CSV containing only those fields.
Renaming the results file creates a new file and restarts processing from the beginning.
5. Select launch frequency: Choose when the Phantom runs: launch manually, schedule a one-time run, set a recurring schedule, launch after another Phantom, or use advanced scheduling to define specific minutes, hours, or days.
6. Adjust advanced settings (optional): Leave defaults unless instructed otherwise. Advanced options include execution limits, retries, notifications, proxies, webhooks, and file management.
7. Launch and retrieve results: Click Launch to start. After completion, open the Results tab and download your data as CSV or JSON.
